![]() His research focuses on childhood brain tumors, and his particular interests are the use of epidemiologic methods to investigate the etiology of brain tumors and other childhood cancers, as well as application of new therapies for brain tumors. That childhood brain tumor program is now one of the largest, comprehensive childhood brain tumor centers for research and care in the Western United States, and a member of the National Cancer Institute’s Pediatric Brain Tumor Consortium. He started his academic career at Johns Hopkins, and in 1997 he was recruited back to Stanford, where he started the pediatric brain tumor program at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital.
